May 12th to May 19th

Monday was a difficult day as my work colleagues proceeded to tell all and sundry how much they enjoyed the play, and couldn’t believe that the team D&I champion, was on stage being very un D&I :-). The evening I was back at the public hall, where I spent a an hour in a cupboard beside the main stage, stowing stuff away. I was covered in dust, dirt and very sweaty at the end of it, so it was a shower before bed. On the Tuesday I was in London for a team meeting. In the evening we went for a very average Indian meal at a very pricey Indian restaurant! Still, BP were paying so I shouldn’t complain :-). On the Wednesday I had to race back to do a training session for three new governors. I am in my 12th year as a governor now, and so I get asked to help mentor, and train new governors. Just when did I become so responsible ?

Tricia was busy with her usual orders, and planning for the Schorne 700 event the village was planning. However, we were both able to down tools on the Friday. I had the day off and we made our way up to the Peak District for the weekend. For once the weather gods were with us. We arrived at Dovedale at around 12:30, and completed a 7 mile walk that included plenty of ups and downs. We stopped at a high point for lunch, and Tricia was pointing out all sorts of wild plants, including wild orchids which had a wonderful colour. After the walk, and an ice cream, we drove onto Cressbrook and the B&B. In the evening we walked up to Monsal Head and enjoyed a meal (even though it took some time to get it served), and a very nice pint of Murphy’s. On the Saturday the weather was glorious, and set off to walk some of the vales… through woods where the wild garlic was in plenty, up hill and down dale. The sun shone, the sky clear and the scenery beautiful. In the afternoon the walk took us onto the old railway line into Bakewell. We stopped just short of Bakewell for a cup of tea and a bakewell tart, which Tricia didn’t like, so I had two and she got something else :-)… On return it was showers and then off to a local pub for meal.. And they were packed and so service was slow, but they gave us a free drink to compensate. Can’t argue with that. Sunday we came back near Dovedale to do the Tissington Trail. We had come via Bakewell, where we acquired some items from Boots to help my feet, which were sore… I have an issue with my right foot, the arch has collapsed and I am going over on the ankle. This gives me pain, but also means I get rubbing on the shoe, and blisters :-(… With my feet plastered and padded, and with new socks… we set off on the trail, Tricia map reading took us across fields, and into some interesting muddy places, but it worked out fine. We finished at an absolutely splendid tea shop in Tissington… And then back home, and back to reality. Some photo’s.
