Well done Helen Mirren…. but

I think Helen Mirren is a top actress and has been terrific over the years, whether it has been in a film or in a TV series. Congratulations to her for the Oscar she won, well deserved.

But, I don’t understand all the acclaim around the film itself. To me it seems based on conjecture and rumour around what the Queen / Blair and others were doing / saying / thinking at that time. The events that the film is built around can’t be denied, but the main spin of the film is on the lead characters and what went on behind the scenes…. so unfortunately the script can only be based on hearsay at the best. The trouble is people will see the film and take that as the reality.

Other than that, I just want to say I hate Monday.

  1. I’m waiting for the DVD of this one as well.  It will be interesting to see if an attempt is made put what was a dire time for the queen in terms of public image into a good light.
With you on it being a dire sporting weekend.  Arsenal lost too and I’m just not even going to mention the rugby although Rob’s mum will be in the shop today so I suppose I will have to then

  2. I agree… I wasn’t blown away by the movie, either…. though I could watch Helen Mirren do just about anything for a couple hours.
Oh, and I’m right there with you on the Monday thing.

  3. Yes It is a family thing.  When I was very young I passionately (and, I found out recently, mistakenly) believed that Dad must have regretted not having a son so I did things like supporting the Gunners to ease the blow for him.  I was even going to be a Marine until I found out I couldn’t be

  4. What Lisa a Marine ? and whats more a Marine with PMT  Yikes I’d just surender now !! I would’nt want to take any chances………….

  5. Its easy to be brave from a few thousand miles. Rod is forgetting women have long memories. I often feel that I am paying for inappropriate comments that were interpreted incorrectly decades ago….

  6. Hi Paul
I’m always brave with a gun or two and the 2500miles distance, But she always hit’s me where the bruises don’t show, I’m only not getting over the emotional scaring from my last trip home, I feel we should have rights and equality as nowadays us poor abused men are the unheard voice of society…………
