Spring came back over the weekend. After having lulled us all into a false sense of winter ending a few weeks back, the weather the last few weeks has been cold, and at times snowy. But, yesterday was a nice day. I even got the lawn mower out and gave the grass its first cut of 2007. Trish spent the afternoon in the garden. She loves gardening and it was the first time she has been able to get out and start preparing the garden for the summer.
At church on Sunday morning, one of the villagers celebrated her 90th birthday. Well done to Evelyn, a lovely woman. She was a bit misty eyed and almost choked up when we sang her happy birthday.
Nikki went for her interview, and got offered a job. A 10 week contract in Homebase, a DIY store.
I enjoyed a quiet Saturday. I watched England’s pathetic effort at football in a 0-0 draw with Israel. I also watched some a dull cricket game, England v Kenya. At least England won the cricket.
I am a little surprised that the press over the weekend seemed to make more of the murder of the cricket coach Bob Woolmer, than the taking prisoner of 15 British military personnel by Iran. The latter certainly having more serious implications. But that’s the press for you.
Although the press aren’t telling the full story on one of those items – ask Rod what the background on this is!!
Well done to Nikki. Is there a chance of a permanent contract when the 10 weeks are up?
And yippee for once I CAN boast about Scotland’s football performance hee hee.
Scotland are doing really well. At least they show some commitment and desire to win. Simple fact is England aren’t as good as they like to think they are. Too many prima donnas in the team. Hopefully if Nikki does well she will get something more regular. What HB have been recruiting for is their busy spring period, seasonal staff if you like.
THE ROYAL MARINES?
1/ The Marines board and inspect all the boats to ensure that they aren’t carrying Arms, Munitions, Fuel or Fighters.
2/ When they are on operations they are also over flown by a helicopter that ensures they are safe and to prevent any ships or suicide boats from straying or ramming the marines boats either going to or returning from the location. These choppers have two 50 calibre machine guns, and Hellfire and heat seeking rockets.
3/ They are also deployed by their mother ship that is only a matter of a mile away who oversees the whole operation and with the uses of a Technological development called RADAR that was invented during the second world war, they employ over the horizon radar that can see all shipping and Aircraft in a 400mile radius. Which has enough fire power to over through a small country…………
4/ The Marines are chosen for this task as they are the Elite of the Navy’s Special forces, and are highly trained to carry out their job, and to ensure that if engaged they will defend themselves, their Country and SHOOT TO KILL if necessary.
So why did they not fire a round or why did they let themselves be taken without a struggle?….Maybe it’s a modern day policy of the Marines to shout” WE SURRENDER, WE SURRENDER” when any hostile forces challenge them, so as not to offend or cause any misunderstanding to non English speaking forces.
Or is that me just being cynical?
